Aruvippuram, a village in Thiruvananthapuram district, holds historical significance as the birthplace of a revolutionary social movement. On Shivaratri in 1888, Sree Narayana Guru took a daring plunge into the Neyyar River and emerged with a Sivalinga. He consecrated it in a makeshift temple, breaking the centuries-old barriers of caste-based discrimination in worship. This act symbolized the empowerment of marginalized communities, granting them the right to worship. The event marked the beginning of a significant social reform in India, with Aruvippuram becoming a symbol of equality and spiritual liberation under Guru's leadership.
